A semi trailer carrying 156 swine overturned east of Brighton Wednesday morning.

As heard live on KCII, at around 10:30 a.m. traffic was limited to one lane at the Highway 78 curve just east of the Highway 1 junction as agencies worked to rescue the sounder. A Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy on the scene of the incident believes speed was a factor in the semi driver failing to negotiate the curve. Crews cut a hole in the top of the trailer to retrieve the livestock, and awaited a second semi truck for transport. The driver was not transported for injuries, and injuries or loss of swine is unknown at this time. Brighton Fire and EMS, Washington Fire Department, Washington County Rescue, Eichelberger Farms, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Iowa State Patrol, Washington County Ambulance Service, the sheriff’s office responded to the scene. KCII will bring you more information as it becomes official.
