The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams took a business trip to Northeast Goose Lake High School and scored a pair of quality wins against the Rebels Tuesday. The Golden Hawk girls opened the night with a 56-51 victory. The Hawks led all the way through, up 10-5 after the first, they went on a 22-11 run in the second to take a 16 point advantage into half. The Rebels countered in the third, outscoring the Hawks 21-7 to pull within two, but Mid-Prairie buckled down and held Northeast at bay down the stretch for a five point victory. Maddie Nonnenmann led the Hawks with 23 points six boards and four steals, Amara Jones added 13 points. Landry Pacha tallied five rebounds and Nora Pennington five steals. With the win, Mid-Prairie enters the holiday break at 4-3. Northeast is 3-8.

The nightcap, was a classic, with Mid-Prairie downing the Rebels on their home floor in overtime 60-55. The contest was tighter than the lid on a pickle jar all night, with the Rebels up 12-11 after one, action tied at 20 at half, and tied at 29 after three. Both offenses caught fire late with each team posting 15 in the fourth, leaving the game knotted at 44 at the end of regulation. In the extra four minute frame, Mid-Prairie put up 16 points to outscore the Rebels and grab the win. Carter Harmsen was electric with 28 points and seven rebounds for the Hawks, Will Cavanagh went beast-mode with a career high 19 points, including five made three pointers, to go along with three steals. Mid-Prairie knocked down a total of nine long balls, but was hampered by nine of 20 shooting at the line, 45%. The Golden Hawks remain unbeaten at 6-0 as Northeast falls to 6-3. The Golden Hawks have one more contest left before Christmas when they travel to Kansas City Thursday to meet Class 5 Raytown South of Missouri at HyVee Arena for the 12 Courts of Christmas Event.
