The Brighton Chamber of Commerce and surrounding communities helped the Grinch’s heart grow several times its size for an inaugural holiday event.
Festivities began on November 26th with the Brighton Christmas Tree Lighting in Central Park followed by the Brighton Chamber Christmas Lights Contest and performances of the Grinch and Friends. Announced on December 16th, the winners of the traditional lights category were Terry and Donna Miller with Chamber President Dave McArtor winning the Griswold category. Both received $200 and McArtor says that his winnings are being donated back to the chamber. Many families received a visit and presents from the Grinch this season as a part of the chamber’s holiday fundraiser. McArtor says they raised over $2,000. He sends a special thank you to everyone involved, “A lot of it was just the businesses that helped out with the Grinch and Friends. Shout out to the Brighton City Council. Shout out to the supporting businesses that helped. Hopefully we can get a hold of some more next year and be able to do this all over again.”
The chamber received so many requests for Grinch and Friends that reservations were full before their final weekend and some were turned away. The money raised will be going towards getting more Christmas lights for Brighton and buying presents for families in need. The chamber hopes to offer more time slots next year to allow more families to see the Grinch and Friends.
