The fall semester for the Washington FFA chapter has been somewhat of a return to form with events including an in-person trip to the national convention in Indianapolis.

The chapter recently completed their fruit sale fundraiser which brought in over $10,000, and goes to support chapter expenses like their greenhouse as well as charitable projects. Chapter President Haylie Trowbridge shares that they used some of the proceeds to donate 42 boxes for Operation Christmas Child, “So Operation Christmas Child, it’s like a box that we put together of clothes, toys, coloring books, tooth brushes, stuff like that. And then the boxes get sent to third world countries for Christmas and just help out kids in need.”

Vice President Abby Renoux says the chapter has now turned its attention to the spring convention season, as this month they have started planning out which Career Development Events members would like to participate in at subdistricts, “There’s so many to choose from. You can do public speaking or radio broadcasting, stuff like that and it’s a really good opportunity to learn about what career field that you’re thinking about going into or just get some more experience about something that you’ve never done before. It takes some work but it’s a rewarding experience at the end when you’re all done with it.”

The chapter is also working on plans to celebrate National FFA Week in February, as well as possibly resuming their Farm Safety Day for younger students and possibly selling strawberries for the first time in addition to their greenhouse sale.
