It’s that time of the year again, with offices closing their doors, a free community dinner in Washington, and Sounds of the Season on KCII.

Washington County offices will be closed for Christmas Eve, and the Washington, Kalona, Wellman, and Riverside city halls are closed Friday and Monday. The Kalona and Wellman-Scofield libraries are both closed Thursday through the weekend, with Wellman-Scofield opening on Monday, and the Washington Public Library closed tomorrow, Saturday, and Monday. Washington County Mini Bus will not operate Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and regular mail will not be delivered Saturday.

The public can enjoy the Washington First Assembly of God’s fifth annual free community Christmas Day dinner on Saturday. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. with dinner served from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Carryout and delivery are available, and Pastor Dave Watson anticipates 450-500 attendees this year, “From the feedback that we’ve gotten already and the reservation numbers that we’ve gotten already, this is going to be one of those years that people are really trying to find a new normal. I don’t know that we ever will know what normal actually is anymore, because of the difference in the things that have happened in the past few years. But they’re looking for something to come together with and actually be a part of that’s consistent and this is one of those things.”

Meal reservations are requested, and you can find information on how to RSVP or volunteer in the flyer above. KCII will be your soundtrack to the holidays, with Sounds of the Season airing from 6 p.m.-midnight Thursday, 5 a.m.-midnight on Christmas Eve and Day, and 1-10 p.m. Sunday with a special holiday performance from the Washington High School Choir at 7:15 p.m.
