Several agencies responded to an overturned livestock semi east of Brighton Wednesday.

As heard live on KCII, agencies were called at about 10:23 a.m. to the curve on Highway 78 just east of the Highway 1 junction. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office states Thomas Nelson of Chadwick, Illinois was driving a semi trailer carrying 156 swine westbound into Brighton when he entered the corner too fast and entered the north ditch, rolling onto its passenger side. No injuries were reported for Nelson. Surviving livestock was freed from the trailer and loaded onto an assisting trailer. The semi was considered totaled and removed along with the trailer from the scene. Four chevron road signs were also knocked down. Eichelberger Farms, Brighton Fire and QRS, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Department of Transportation, Washington Fire Department, Washington County Rescue, and Iowa Department of Natural Resources also responded to the scene.
