Two local school districts sent their archery teams to the Cedar Rapids Prairie bullseye and 3D shoots on December 18th.
The Washington Demons sent high school, middle school and Lincoln Elementary students to compete. The archers from WHS finished second in the bullseye tournament with a total of 3274. The host Prairie Hawks won the team title with a 3336. Top marksman for the Demons was Madison Conway who won the girls contest with a 282 including 17 tens. Lane Frana led the Demon boys at 280. Washington was also second in the high school 3D shoot competition with a 1571, finishing behind Prairie’s 1665. Frana led the way there, finishing sixth in the boys competition with a 270 including nine tens. Hayden Janecek was the top 3D girls archer with a 269 including 12 tens, taking fifth in the girls contest.
The Demon middle schoolers won the team bullseye competition with a 3137, ahead of Solon’s 3044. Quintyn Garibay led Washington with a 272 including 11 tens, finishing second in the boys middle school competition. Emma Helfrich was the top Demon middle school girl with a 273 including 10 tens to finish as individual runner up. In the 3D shoot, Washington’s Hannah Lipski won the individual title with a 270 including 13 tens. Nicholas Charlier was the top Washington boy with 252, including 11 tens to place third individually.
The archers from Lincoln won the elementary bullseye contest with a 2517 over Mid-Prairie’s 2344. Zach Hotchkiss led the Lincoln Demons with a score of 251 to win the individual contest. Bella Venenga was the top Washington elementary girls archer, finishing runner-up with a 222. In 3D, Lincoln had two competitors with Lyric Hotle shooting 135 and Tennison Montgomery 70.
The Mid-Prairie High School team placed sixth of six schools in the bullseye shoot with a score of 2960. Zane Fisher led the Golden Hawk high school boys with a 274 including 13 tens for 10th place. Zoe Fisher was tops on the girls side with her 269 including 10 tens for 21st place. In 3D action, Mid-Prairie was third of four teams with a 1535. Zane Fisher was fourth with a 275 including 13 tens. Paytin Swartzentruber was best on the Mid-Prairie girls side with a 262 including 12 tens for 11th place.
Mid-Prairie middle schoolers fired a bullseye 2847 to finish fourth of five teams. Lael Seale won the girls competition with a 274 including 11 tens. Elijah Statler’s 270 including 13 tens was fifth in boys competition. In 3D, the middle schoolers shot 1489 led by Seale’s 252 including seven tens to finish fourth in girls action and Statler’s 265 including 11 tens was fifth.
Mid-Prairie elementary students came together for a 2344 bullseye score. Mya Brenneman won the girls contest with a 227 including three tens. For the boys Gavin Luers was runner-up with a 242 including four tens. Both teams are now off for Holiday break.
