It was a Southeast Iowa Super Conference split in Columbus Junction last week to close the first half of the season when the Wildcats hosted Lone Tree in a pair of area showdowns.
The girls game was close throughout with the Lions emerging by the slightest of margins in a 41-40 victory. The score was in favor of Columbus 10-7 after one, but the Lions led 22-18 at half. The Wildcats cut it to one by the fourth, but a 9-9 stalemate in the final quarter allowed for Lone Tree to hang on. Kasey Chown led the Lions with 13 points and Riley Krueger was also in double figures with 12. They improved to 4-6 overall and 2-5 in the league. Columbus was led by a 14 point outing from Lily Coil, Libby White had 10, and Aracely Garza managed 12 rebounds. The blue and white drop to 2-8 including 1-6 in the SEISC.
The nightcap saw the host Wildcats hold off the Lions by a 54-46 final score. The Columbus lead was 21-19 at half and 35-32 after three, before a 19-14 fourth quarter to seal the deal. The Wildcats are now 3-5 overall and 3-4 in the league. Adam Knock led the Lions with 17 points and Cade Shield had 11. They fall to 2-6 and 2-4 in the conference.
