Mid-Prairie senior Will Cavanagh has chosen to continue his athletic and academic career next year at Central College in Pella. The Golden Hawk made the announcement via social media earlier this month.

Cavanagh was a one-year starter at quarterback for Mid-Prairie in 2021. He was named second team all-district and academic all-state. He was 88 of 145 through the air for 1,086 yards, 14 touchdowns and five interceptions. His 61% completion percentage was fifth in 2A, his five interceptions were the third fewest. He also rushed for 349 yards and five touchdowns on 85 carries. His completion percentage this year was the best in Mid-Prairie history. His 14 scoring throws are the third most in a single year for the program with his 15 career touchdown passes eighth most. As a junior, he saw limited action at quarterback in a reserve role and was a starter in the defensive secondary. He spoke this week with KCII Sports about his decision. “I always have loved football and it’s something that me and my dad share. It’s always been my favorite sports. Having such a big team atmosphere. I’ve always loved growing up watching it. I think Central just kind of stood out. Pella is a great place to be. They have a great school, great campus. They are such a competitive school and football team with great players that they are good almost every year. It’s somewhere you want to be to surround yourself with good people who work hard.”

Cavanagh will study physical education while on campus in Pella.
