The tradition that is Washington archery is alive and well once again this winter with plenty of success at all levels in the first part of the season.
A total of 117 archers make up the Washington program ranging from fourth through 12th graders. The Demon elementary is currently ranked first in the state in the bullseye competition and fourth in the 3D after a first place showing in the Cedar Rapids Prairie tournament earlier this month. The middle school team is ranked second and third, respectively and they also swept the Prairie tournament. The high school squad placed second at that tournament and they now gear up for the 2022 portion of the schedule that includes a home competition next week. Fans will have a chance to see all three levels compete on Saturday, January 8th at the “Shooting for a Cure” Tournament, something High School Head Coach Jim Peterson says is for a great cause. “A lot of the proceeds are to help out those with cancer. That money usually stays local as well to help out someone in our community that has been impacted by cancer.”
The home tournament is set to begin at 9 a.m. at Washington High School and admission is $5.
