Area girls wrestling teams begin the second half of the season tonight when Washington, Mid-Prairie and WACO travel to Anamosa for the Blue Raider Girls Invitational.

The Washington girls take the mat for the first time since the December 13th Mid-Prairie tournament where Tegan Sulentich won the girls division 31 championship and Jillian Langstraat placed fourth in the girls 24 division. Sulentich has a 5-4 record in contested matches this season, Langstraat is 5-8 in contested matches.

Mid-Prairie’s last turn on the mat was December 18th at the Wilton Women’s Tournament. The Hawks had four champions that day with Gabi Robertson, Grace Conway, Bronwyn Brenneman and Madison Kelly all bringing home gold while Emil Harmston, Mia Garvey and Ali Bolanos finished as runners-up. At this point in the season, Conway, Brenneman, and Garvey are all above .500 with Brenneman ranked No. 10 in the state in her weight class according to IAwrestle.com.

The last event for the WACO Warriors was also at Wilton December 18th. Grace Fort was a champion at the event with Bralyyn Wagler finishing as runner-up and Heaven Steege third in their respective weight classes. Fort is 8-5 on the year, Steege is 6-7, Wagler is 2-6 and Alyssa Ferdig is 0-1.

Joining the Demons, Hawks and Warriors in action Monday are Ames, Bellevue, Benton, Bettendorf, Cedar Falls, Center Point-Urbana, Central City, Central DeWitt, Central Elkader, Charles City, Clayton Ridge, Davenport Assumption, Central, and West, Denver, Dubuque Senior and Wahlert, Durant, East Buchanan, Independence, City High, Iowa Valley, Cedar Rapids Jefferson, Prairie and Kennedy, Linn-Mar, Marion, MFL MARMAC, Mount Vernon, Muscatine, North Cedar, Pleasant Valley, Solon, Sumner-Fredricksburg, Vinton-Shellsburg, Waverly-Shellrock, West Branch, West Liberty, Western Dubuque, Wilton and the home Blue Raiders. Action starts tonight at 5p.m. at Anamosa High School.
