The New Year got started on a high note for the Washington boys’ basketball team last night when they traveled to Albia for a non-conference showdown and the road Demons cruised to a 79-59 win. 

Washington came out ready offensively by sprinting to a 19-12 lead after one and 49-23 advantage at the break with Kasen Bailey hitting seven first half threes. The lead ballooned to as high as 31 with every Demon seeing the floor. Bailey was scorching the nets by finishing with eight triples on 10 attempts and recorded a game-high 28 points. Ethan Patterson collected 18 points on four made long balls and the team connected on 14 of 34 shots from deep. Lucas Kroll chipped in with 10 points and four steals while Lance Sobaski hauled in 10 rebounds. Albia dropped to 5-4 on the season. 

Washington improves to 7-1 and they get back into Southeast Conference play Friday at Fairfield in a girl/boy doubleheader that can be heard on KCII.
