A Washington man was recently sentenced for a March 2021 domestic incident.

Court documents show that 25-year-old John Edward Walling III pleaded guilty to a modified charge of assault causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor. Walling is ordered to spend 50 days in the Washington County Jail counting time already spent in jail following his arrest. He is ordered to pay a $430 fine with a 15% surcharge, any pecuniary damages filed, and Category B restitution.

Walling was originally charged with domestic abuse assault impeding air flow, a class D felony. The criminal complaint states that a Washington police officer responded to a residence in the 900 block of East 3rd Street for an assault. The female victim informed the officer that Walling broke a mirror that was in her lap and the glass cut her left shoulder. He was also alleged to have choked the victim. Walling was not at the residence while law enforcement was on scene and he was arrested later that month.
