Donnellson was the location for a Southeast Iowa Super Conference doubleheader on Tuesday in the first night back from break for the WACO basketball teams and the boys handled Central Lee while the girls dropped their contest with the Hawks.
The WACO boys had little trouble with the winless Hawks (0-8) by quickly leading 15-4 after one, 27-15 at the break, and a 42-13 spurt to close the game ended in a 69-28 blowout victory. The Warriors turned over their opponent 36 times and out rebounded them 37-18. Hunter Hughes led the way with 13 points and seven steals. Cody Graber was also in double figures with 10 points and six blocks. A total of 12 Warriors scored and they shot 51% as a team. WACO is now 7-2 overall and third in the SEISC-South with a 4-2 league mark.
The Warrior girls led 7-5 after one in the first game, but a 16-6 Hawk (6-3) second quarter proved to be the difference in a 43-34 Central Lee triumph. Alivia Myhre was tough to stop for the home squad with a game-high 18 points. The blue and white were led by a 12 point outing from Ellah Kissell and nine from Grace Coble. WACO is now 5-5 overall and fifth in the south with a 2-4 conference record.
Both Warrior teams return to the court tomorrow hosting Burlington Notre Dame.
