Highland High School will be in the southeast Iowa wrestling spotlight Saturday as they host a strong field for the annual Gary Curtis Invitational. The Huskies will be joined on their home mat by area schools Washington, Mid-Prairie and Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union. The Huskies were last on the mat pre-Christmas at the Fort Madison Invitational where Carlos Valenzuela led Highland with a second place finish at 132lbs. The Huskies have one ranked wrestler in their lineup with Easton Schlabaugh checking in at No. 6 in class 1A at 120lbs according to the latest poll from IAwrestle.com.

The Washington Demons come into the day off of a quad against Fort Madison, WACO and Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union where the Demons went 1-2. Washington has one ranked wrestler in their lineup with Aaron Boone at No. 11 at 113lbs in class 2A.

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks are in action after a three for three day Thursday when they swept a quad against Bellevue, Northeast Goose Lake and Camanche. The Hawks have a pair of ranked wrestlers in their lineup with Cael Garvey No. 2 at 195lbs in class 2A and Gannon Callahan No. 12 at 285lbs.

The Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union Wildcats wrestled a quad Thursday with Washington, Fort Madison and WACO, scoring a win over the Demons. The Wildcats have one ranked wrestler in their lineup with Lane Scorpil at No. 2 at 120lbs in class 2A.

Joining these four area teams in action today are Alburnett, Cascade, English Valleys, Iowa City Regina, Mount Pleasant, Muscatine, New London, South Tama and Wilton. Action starts at 10a.m. and continues all day at Highland High School.
