As residents settle into the new year, the Wellman-Scofield Public Library is giving adults new opportunities to spend time in the community this month.
Every Monday at 5 p.m. in January, the library hosts a murder mystery book club where residents can come and talk about books they’re reading and enjoying and play some games. The library is hosting storytime Tuesdays at 11 a.m. with weekly crafts, singing, and more. On Thursdays at 4 p.m. the library welcomes people of all ages to join the Bring Your Own Book Club to discuss a wide variety of books while enjoying coffee and tea and getting to know fellow patrons. Volunteers are also invited to join library staff at Parkview Manor on Thursdays at 11 a.m. to read to the residents. Director Erin Campbell says that the library is currently in the process of preparing for a fundraiser in February to help with the library expansion project, “We’re working with Usborne Books and we’re going to have a representative. She has where people can buy books on their website but it’s linked to us so that we get money for people purchasing books from them. So if they want to buy a book, all they have to do is buy it under our site name and then we get money from that.”
Campbell added that any donations can go a long way in helping hit their goal of $500,000. While they wait for the fundraiser to start, residents are welcome to stop by the library and drop off any donations this month. Campbell says that volunteers are also welcome to come in and talk with her about helping out around the library and assisting with reading times throughout the month.
