A Tama man was arrested on new charges Thursday after being ordered jail time earlier that day in Washington County.

The Washington County Communications Center states at about 4:53 p.m. they received a call from someone stating their Jeep was stolen in front of their business in Kalona and left southbound toward Washington. Washington County Sheriff’s deputies and Washington police officers responded and arrested 23-year-old Bukuru Pacific on charges of first-degree theft, a class C felony, driving while suspended, a serious misdemeanor, and interference with official acts, a simple misdemeanor.

Court documents filed on Thursday show that through a plea agreement Pacific was convicted of eluding and operating a vehicle without owner’s consent, both aggravated misdemeanors. He was ordered to pay fines of $855 for each count with a 15% surcharge, any pecuniary damages, and Category B restitution, and spend 45 days in jail with credit for time already served. A charge was dismissed for possession of marijuana first offense, a serious misdemeanor. On November 14 of last year Washington County was informed of Pacific driving a stolen vehicle from Henry County on Highway 218 near Highway 22 and was eventually stopped by Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies southeast of Iowa City.
