The Mid-Prairie boys and girls basketball teams will step outside of River Valley play Monday to host the Williamsburg Raiders. The Mid-Prairie girls are 6-4 this season after a blowout 65-20 win over Anamosa on Saturday night that saw Amara Jones and Maddie Nonnenmann each go for 20 points. Mid-Prairie is shooting 39% this year overall, 27% from distance, and 49% at the line to go along with 52 points per game while giving up 42. They average 30 rebounds, 13 assists, 15 steals and 14 turnovers per game. Nonnenmann leads the Hawks at 16 points per game. Jones puts up a team best five and a half rebounds, four assists and four steals per night.
Williamsburg is also 6-4 this year after a 51-39 loss to Center Point Urbana Friday. Williamsburg is ranked No. 14 in class 3A in the latest poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. The Raiders score 52 and give up 49 a night, shooting 35% from the floor, 26% from long range and 58% at the line to go along with 24 boards, seven assists 10 steals and 13 turnovers per game. Carly Rich and Taylor Winegarden lead the way at 12 points each night. Kendra Eichhorn pulls down eight boards, has two assists and two steals per night. Mid-Prairie has won four of the last six in the series, but the Raiders have won two in a row including 60-48 a season ago.
The Mid-Prairie boys put their perfect record on the line tonight against the rival Raiders, entering the game 10-0 after a win over Anamosa Saturday 67-31, behind 22 points from Carter Harmsen, 14 from Ethan Kos and 13 from Alex Bean. On the year, the Hawks score 63 and give up 41 per outing, shooting 46% from the floor, 31% from downtown, and 65% from the line. They grab 31 boards, dish out 13 assists, grab 10 steals and commit 10 turnovers per game. Individual leaders are Carter Harmsen with 20 points and eight boards per night. Jack Pennington averages four assists and two steals per game.
Williamsburg is 9-1 entering play after a 66-49 win against Center Point Urbana Friday. They average 62 points and give up 48 per game, shooting 48% overall, 39% from long range and 65% at the line. They average 28 boards, 15 assists, 10 steals and 16 turnovers per game. Individually, Derek Weisskopf averages 15 points, six boards and two steals a night. Williamsburg has won the last two meetings including 74-70 last year.
