Law enforcement agencies from across the KCII-listening area assisted in an investigation that resulted in a federal prison sentencing this week.

U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa Richard D. Westphal announces that 43-year-old Alphonso Edmond, Jr. of Burlington is sentenced to 180 months in prison for his involvement in a drug conspiracy dating back to 2001. Edmond was among eight people from Burlington who were charged federally in November 2019 after the execution of numerous federal search warrants in Burlington and elsewhere. He was found to have been involved in a conspiracy to distribute ice methamphetamine and crack cocaine, and carried a firearm related to his drug trafficking activities. The seven other suspects either pleaded or were found guilty by a jury trial. Others associated with this drug trafficking organization have also been federally charged in Iowa’s Southern District, the Central District of Illinois, and the Northern District of Texas. Numerous agencies conducted the investigation including the Washington, Henry, Louisa, and Johnson county sheriff’s offices, and Mount Pleasant Police Department.
