Six teams from the KCII listening area are among those competing in the stacked field at the WACO Warrior Wrestling Invitational today. Washington, Mid-Prairie, Highland, Sigourney-Keota, WACO and Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union will all attend. This tournament was originally scheduled for Saturday but was moved back to Tuesday due to weather.

The Demons are coming off of an eighth place finish of 15 teams at the Gary Curtis Invitational at Highland. Washington had a pair of champions with Aaron Boone winning the 113lb bracket and named Most Outstanding Wrestler, and Chase Greiner taking gold at 160lbs. The Demons have one ranked wrestler in their lineup with Boone standing at No. 11 in class 2A in the latest poll from IAwrestle.com.

Mid-Prairie was fifth at the Gary Curtis Invite. The Hawks also had a pair of champions with Cael Garvey winning 195lbs and Gannon Callahan 285lbs. Those two seniors are also the ranked wrestlers in the Mid-Prairie lineup with Garvey No. 2 and Callahan No. 11 in class 2A.

Highland finished 13th at their home tournament. Carlos Valenzuela’s third place finish at 132lbs was the highest for any Huskie. Highland has one ranked wrestler in their lineup with Dalton Schlabaugh No. 6 at 120lbs in class 1A.

Sigourney-Keota wrestled at the Ottumwa Tournament, taking third of 15 schools. Aidan Schuster at 182lbs and Conner Reed at 220lbs both won championships. The Savages have five ranked wrestlers in their lineup with Reanah Utterback No. 7 at 106lbs, Cade Molyneux No. 11 at 160lbs, Jack Clarahan No. 8 at 170lbs, Cade Streigle No. 6 at 195lbs and Reed No. 12 at 220lbs.

Columbus/Winfield-Mt Union was also at Highland where they finished 12th and saw Lane Scorpil climb to the top of the podium at 120lbs. He’s also the only ranked Wildcat, at No. 2 in class 2A.

The WACO Warriors are hosting the event. They were at Riverside, taking 13th at the Gary Curtis Invite. Jonah Clark rolled to the championship at 220lbs. He’s one of two ranked Warriors in the lineup at No. 6 while Louden Huisenga is 10th at 145lbs.

Joining these teams today are English Valleys, Mediapolis, New London, North Mahaska, Burlington Notre Dame, Pekin, Wapello and Waterloo West. Action begins at 4p.m. at WACO HIgh School.
