The Washington basketball teams were split up last night for a couple makeup games with both teams experiencing differing results.

As heard on KCII, the Demon boys made a trip to Keokuk (3-8, 0-6) in hopes to stay near the top of the Southeast Conference and mission accomplished in a 65-49 win. The final score did not tell the tale of a hard fought night where the Chiefs were in striking distance for the first 29 minutes of the game. Already shorthanded with a recent injury to starter Lance Sobaski, the Demons got into major foul trouble in the first half and found themselves just up two with three minutes to go until intermission. Grant Sobaski provided a spark off the bench by forcing a couple Chief steals that led to points including a three point play. That run made it 35-25 at the break, but Keokuk drew closer at 45-39 after three. It wasn’t until three minutes left in the game where Washington got it out to a double digit lead and stretched it to a 16 point victory. Lucas Kroll paced the team with 20 points and eight rebounds. Kasen Bailey added 17 points and five assists while Ethan Patterson had 11 points. Head Coach Collin Stark loved the close to the first half. “We always talk about playing within ourselves and not doing too much. Just be in the right spot and do your job. I thought Grant really did just that in the second and Logan McDole did as well. They worked well together in the press and those were good minutes for them. We were in foul trouble and we still made a run to close the first half.” Washington improves to 11-1 overall and 5-1 in the SEC. They dip out of conference tonight hosting Davis County (7-6) and listen to the game on FM 106.1 KCII with tip set for 7:45 p.m.

The Demon girls had a makeup non-conference bout at home with Oskaloosa (8-5) and the road Indians built a 25-13 halftime lead and eventually won 58-32. Presley Blommers led all scorers with 19 points. Washington was led by Alex Murphy with 13 while Makenna Conrad and Kaylin Long each had eight. The orange and black fall to 1-11 and they will have their makeup with Keokuk tonight on the road starting at 7:30 p.m.
