It was a tall task for the Highland basketball teams on Tuesday night in Riverside when they welcomed one of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference favorites in Mediapolis and the Bulldogs swept the doubleheader.

The number 11th ranked in class 2A Bulldog girls (14-0, 11-0) showed why they are worthy of the ranking with a 69-37 road victory. A 12-7 lead quickly ballooned to 32-9 at the break after a 20-2 second quarter to put the game out of reach. Hallie Mohr went off for Mediapolis with 27 points and a monstrous 17 boards. Sarah Burton led Highland with 12 points and Abbi Stransky had 10 points with 10 rebounds. Highland is now 6-9 overall and 5-6 in the SEISC.

The Huskie boys had a valiant effort against the second place Bulldogs (10-2, 9-1), but ran out of gas in a 51-37 loss. Highland kept the Mediapolis offense at bay for most of the night leading 14-9 at half, 24-20 at the break, and the score being tied at 29-29 after three. The Bulldogs ramped up the attack in the fourth with a 22-8 quarter to put the home squad away. Chase Schultz collected a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Connor Grinstead managed 11 points and Trevor McFarland dished out four assists. They drop to 1-12 overall and 1-10 in the league.

Both Highland teams travel to Wapello tomorrow.
