Having Belle Plaine’s number must be in the cards for the Keota girls’ basketball team this season, as the Eagles traveled to face the Plainsmen on Tuesday and they capped off a season sweep with a 38-32 victory.
The Eagles defeated the Plainsmen at home 37-27 in November and this one started promising with a 13-6 second quarter that gave Keota a 21-14 lead at the break. Both teams traded punches in the final two quarters and the Eagles picked up another signature win against a nine-win squad. They improved to 4-11 overall and 4-7 in the conference.
The Eagle boys had a harder time keeping up with the Plainsmen (9-5) falling 60-49. Belle Plaine built a 15-10 first quarter lead that turned into a 29-18 advantage at the break and they held serve in the final two quarters. Evan Vittetoe collected a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards. Sawyer Stout added 11 points and Cole Kindred had 10. The purple and gold drop to 7-7 overall and 5-6 in the league.
Both Eagle teams host Sigourney tomorrow for homecoming.
