The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk wrestling team is on the road tonight for their final dual meet of the season when they meet West Liberty, Wilton and Durant for a River Valley quad in West Liberty. The school record for team dual victories in a season is 14. The Beavers and the Hawks met on January 11th this season with Wilton scoring a 59-24 win.

West Liberty is 14-5 on the year after sweeping an RVC triangular last Thursday with Camanche and West Branch. The Comets have a pair of ranked wrestlers in their lineup with Colin Cassady No. 8 at 106lbs and Drake Collins No. 3 at 170lbs. The Comets won the matchup with the Hawks last year 46-35.

Durant is 3-15 on the dual season following their split of a River Valley triangular last Thursday, beating Northeast Goose Lake and losing to Iowa City Regina. The Wildcats have one ranked wrestler in their lineup with Ethan Gast No. 3 at 132lbs. Mid-Prairie beat the Wildcats last year 54-24. This week, Mid-Prairie head coach Justin Garvey talked about his team’s mindset entering the meet. “We saw Wilton last week, they’re a tough team. I think they are still undefeated and West Liberty is undefeated so those two will be in a dual for the conference championship. We’ve just got to show up and wrestle tough in every weight class. The key will be our lower and middle weight guys. They have been turning things on as of late and figuring it out. We’re just going to have to out and battle. That’s the mindset. We’re the underdogs. We’re not supposed to win so don’t worry about it. Go out and score as many points as you can and take it to them.”

Action starts at 5:30 at West Liberty High School.
