Iowa State University Extension and Outreach specialists are teaming up with ISU ag and biosystems engineering specialists to host a planter equipment workshop in Washington.
As a part of Planter University, local farmers, agricultural service providers, equipment and precision ag dealers and others will have the opportunity to learn about a variety of planter technologies available from Iowa State Digital Ag group specialists. Five workshops will be hosted throughout the state including Washington. ISU Extension and Outreach Field Agronomist Rebecca Vittetoe shares what spurred this year’s launch of Planter University, “This past spring, people had some issues getting the planters set right to get the seed in the ground. So it was one that I got a lot of questions on and I know some stuff about planters but obviously not everything on every planter. So we did rely a lot on the folks on campus to help answer some of those questions. That’s what kind of sparked the discussion to maybe offer something like this.”
Vittetoe adds that the workshop will cover all major brands of planters. The Washington workshop lasts from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. on February 9th at the Iowa National Guard Armory near the county fairgrounds. Pre-registration is required a week prior to the meeting and attendance is limited to 40 participants. Cost is $75 and will include lunch, refreshments and workshop materials.
