Students, staff, and residents of the Mid-Prairie School District recently came together to show support for one of their own.
Mid-Prairie junior Trever Moen has recently been diagnosed with stage four Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a cancer that affects the immune system. Since that time students, staff and community members have taken action to help raise funds for Moen and his family. Mid-Prairie High School Counselor Melissa Rediger says fundraising efforts have included a “T-Moen Zone” t-shirt fundraiser, “Fight with Trever” wristband sales and a No Shave November contest.
On January 10th, the school held a half court shot contest in between the girls and boys varsity basketball games. Band Director David Kunz was also announced as the “Kiss a Pig” winner, as students dropped over $200 in a jar to see him smooch a swine. Rediger shares how these events impact the community, “I think it just shows sometimes we get lost in our day to day things, the negative things that could be going on. We get in our little fish bowl of parts of [our] world. And I think when you see all this money that can be raised, I mean in one night, we were able to raise about $2,500. We had a great turnout for the game and the fact that Trever was able to come and see that in person, despite what’s going on in his life, is really heartwarming.”
The district has collected around $6,000 so far for Moen. Rediger says they might hold another t-shirt fundraiser in the spring and anyone who would like to send donations to the Moen family can contact the high school.
