It was a big weekend to be a Warrior basketball fan with the WACO boys and girls sweeping a pair of doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday.

Friday at home featured a pair of nail biters with the girls holding on against Cardinal 42-39 and the boys beating the Comets 49-45. The girls’ contest was nip and tuck the entire way with the Warriors finding the edge in the free throw department hitting 16 of 27 for the game compared to the Comets (3-10) being eight of 16. Ellah Kissell led all scorers with 21 points while Grace Coble had nine points and seven rebounds. The Comet (7-6) boys led 39-33 after three, but the fourth quarter was all Warriors with a 16-6 frame to seize victory. The blue and white had balanced scoring with Simeon Reichenbach having 12 points, Hunter Hughes with 11, and Colton Leichty had 10 points and nine boards.

A road trip to New London the next night was all WACO in the girls contest with a 38-17 halftime lead that eventually grew to a 70-33 final score over the Tigers (0-14). Kissell could not be stopped in the rout with a career night of 41 points on 15 of 25 shooting. Coble managed 15 points and Katie Leichty had 11. The WACO boys made a booming statement against No. 7 ranked and previously undefeated New London (11-1) with a 67-48 road win. It was a five-point game heading into the fourth, but the second half dominance trend for WACO continued with a 16-2 final frame. New London was without second leading scorer Kade Benjamin and the Warriors held leading point getter Blaise Porter to six of 17 shooting. Colton Leichty went off for 23 points, Reichenbach had 19, and Reece Oswald registered 10.

The WACO girls are now 8-7 overall and 3-6 in the SEISC-South division. The boys move to 12-3 and 8-3 in the league. Both teams hit the road to face Van Buren tomorrow.
