Several grant-related items were recently approved by the Washington City Council.

The council approved a municipal grant application presented by Finance Director Kelsey Brown for the Washington County Riverboat Foundation whose deadline is February 1st. They’re requesting $55,000 for Wellness Park Phase II, $270,000 for downtown streetscape expansion, and $100,000 for a downtown incentive grant for fiscal year 2023. This will be the second installment of Riverboat funds needed for the streetscape expansion and the last for phase II of the Wellness Park.

The council also approved Main Street Washington’s request to use $25,000 of the downtown incentive grant funds for a match towards an application for an Iowa Economic Development Authority Downtown Housing Grant. A match is required for a grant to go toward a nearly $500,000 project to renovate the Southeast Iowa Union building at 111 North Marion Avenue for rental housing.
