The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams travel to Iowa City tonight for a River Valley Conference doubleheader with their rivals from Regina. The Mid-Prairie girls are 11-5 on the year, 11-4 in the RVC, winners of five straight and fresh off of a Monday upset of No. 8 West Liberty 40-38, led by 23 points from Maddie Nonnenmann. The Hawks score 49 points per game and give up 40, shooting 38% from the floor with 30 rebounds, 12 assists and 13 steals per game. Nonnenmann is Mid-Prairie’s leading scorer at 16 points per game. Amara Jones leads the Hawks with six rebounds, four assists and four steals per night.

Iowa City Regina is 13-3 overall, and 13-1 in the River Valley. The Regals are ranked No. 8 in class 2A according to the latest poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. They were Friday winners over Anamosa 68-25 with Alli Clark scoring a game high 19 points. On the year, Regina 53 per game and gives up 38, shooting 41% from the floor. They average 27 rebounds, 16 assists and 12 steals per game. Individual leaders include Grace Gaarde at 12 points, six assists and three steals per game. Lily Simpson leads the Regals on the glass with eight boards per game. Regina beat Mid-Prairie in overtime in Wellman in December 55-46.

The Mid-Prairie boys are an unbeaten 15-0 overall and 13-0 in the River Valley, coming into tonight following a Monday 59-27 win over West Liberty in Wellman. They are ranked No. 3 in class 2A in this week’s poll from the Iowa Associated Press. Carter Harmsen had a 27 point, 14 rebound double double to lead the Hawks against the Comets, which pushed him across the 1,000 point total for his career. The Golden Hawks score 64 points per night and give up 43, shooting 47% from the floor along with 31 rebounds, 14 assists, and 10 steals. Harmsen is the individual leader with 21 points and nine rebounds each night. Jack Pennington averages three assists and two steals per game.

Iowa City Regina is 3-12 this year, and 3-11 in conference play following a 58-33 loss to Anamosa Friday. They score 49 points per game and give up 64. They shoot 38% from the floor with 28 rebounds, 10 assists and four steals per game. Individual leaders include Coltrae Kerschen with 11 points per game and Carter Leick with six rebounds and two assists per night. Mid-Prairie beat Regina in Wellman in December 69-50.
