In a battle of Warriors in Keosauqua on Tuesday, both schools of WACO and Van Buren came away with wins in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference basketball doubleheader split.
The Van Buren (2-12) boys hung in the game for the first half with the score tied at 12-12 after one and 27-17 WACO lead at the break. Pulling away in the second half has been the mantra for WACO and it continued by outscoring their opponent 44-28 to run away with a 71-45 victory. Hunter Hughes hit eight of 10 shots for a game-high 20 points and six rebounds. Simeon Reichenbach and Reece Oswald each added 14 points. The road squad improved to 13-3 overall and 9-3 in the SEISC.
The WACO girls won the first meeting in December, but Van Buren (5-11) got their sweet revenge by building off of a 32-19 halftime lead and coming out on top 54-30. Kadence Nusbaum led Van Buren with 17 points. WACO falls to 8-8 and 3-6 in the division.
The blue and white get back on the court tomorrow hosting West Burlington.
