Two suspects have been arrested in connection to a January 7th shooting that occurred in the City of Washington.
Washington Police Chief Jim Lester states 41-year-old Kenneth James of Coralville was shot as he was sitting in his car in a parking lot in the 600 block of West Adams Street. Upon investigation law enforcement learned that 17-year-old Jaden Miller of Columbus Junction and 19-year-old Mya Wright of Iowa City conspired to commit a robbery against James after inviting him to Washington for a drug deal. During the course of the attempted robbery Miller shot James once in the torso.
Miller and Wright were both arrested Thursday on charges of attempt to commit murder and first-degree robbery, both class B felonies. If convicted, they face punishment of up to 25 years in prison for each charge, and they remain in custody on a $500,000 cash-only bond. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible. Washington police and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation were assisted by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Washington County Attorney’s Office, and the Columbus Junction Police Department. KCII will bring you more information as it becomes official.
