It’s a long trip to Bellevue Friday night for the Mid-Prairie boys and girls basketball teams to meet the Comets for a River Valley Conference doubleheader. The Golden Hawk boys come into the game with a perfect 16-0 mark on the season, 14-0 atop the south division of the RVC after a 55-24 win at Regina on Tuesday with Carter Harmsen scoring 18 points. Mid-Prairie is currently ranked No. 3 in this week’s class 2A poll from the Associated Press. On the year, they score 64 per game and give up 42, shooting 46% from the floor, with 31 rebounds, 14 assists, and 10 steals a night. Individual leaders include Harmsen at 21 points and nine boards per game and Jack Pennington with three assists and two steals per night.
The Comets are 7-8 this year and 7-7 in the River Valley. They lost at No. 1 Monticello Monday 56-43. On the year Bellevue scores 56 points per game and gives up 52, shooting 39% from the floor with 32 rebounds, nine assists, and eight steals per night. Colby Sieverding leads Bellevue at 14 points per game. Jackson Mueller averages seven rebounds and Jensen Wedeking two steals per night. Mid-Prairie beat Bellevue last year 61-51 in Wellman.
The Golden Hawk girls are 11-6 on the year, 11-5 in league play after a 52-31 loss at rival Iowa City Regina Tuesday. Mid-Prairie scores 48 each game and gives up 41 shooting 38% from the floor with 30 rebounds, 12 assists, and 12 steals. Maddie Nonnenmann leads the Golden Hawks with 17 points per game. Amara Jones has a team best five rebounds, four assists and four steals per game.
Bellevue is 11-4 on the season and 10-4 in the River Valley North. They have been off since a road win last Friday over Wilton 76-71. The Comets score 55 points per game and give up 36, shooting 40% from the floor to go along with 23 rebounds, 10 assists, and 22 steals per night. Mariah Hueneke is the individual leader at 18 points and five steals per game. Ka’Lynn DeShaw averages a team best seven rebounds per night. Bellevue won this matchup last year 47-34.
