Hillcrest Union will be buzzing Friday night when the Raven boys and girls basketball teams welcome the Pekin Panthers for a Southeast Iowa Superconference doubleheader. The Hillcrest boys come into the night with an 11-3 overall record, they are 9-3 and in third place in the north division after a tough 48-44 road win at Wapello Monday, behind 18 points from Luke Schrock. On the season, Hillcrest scores 53 a game and gives up 41, shooting 48% from the floor with 24 boards, 13 assists and nine steals. Individually, Grant Bender is the leader at 19 points and six boards a night with Schrock posting a team best three assists and two steals per game.
Pekin is 7-9 on the year and 7-5 in the Superconference. The Panthers were Tuesday winners over Columbus at home 59-53, with Chandler Stull scoring 20 points. The Panthers score 48 per game and give up 49 shooting 42% from the floor with 25 rebounds, 11 assists and seven steals per night. Individually, Luke Long scores a team best 14 per night with six rebounds. Colton Comstock is the team leader with five assists and two steals per game. These two played an overtime classic in Packwood in December than the Ravens won 60-59.
In the girls contest, Hillcrest enters with a 1-14 mark on the year and is 0-10 in conference after a 43-23 loss at Wapello Monday night. The Ravens score 28 per game and give up 49 shooting 27% from the floor with 22 rebounds, three assists, and six steals. Individually, Esther Hughes leads Hillcrest with 14 points, six rebounds and two steals per game.
The Pekin girls are 7-10 overall, 3-6 in the Superconference following a 40-19 win over Columbus in Packwood Tuesday. The Panthers score 37 per game and give up 39 shooting 33% from the floor with 23 rebounds, 10 assists, and 10 steals per game. Individual leaders include Kerrigan Pope at 17 points and eight boards per game. Sarah Eubanks averages three assists and three steals per night. Pekin won the December matchup between the two schools 36-21.
