Jarad Klein, Jaron Rosien

The first candidate for State House District 92 has announced his campaign, following Representative Jarad Klein’s announcement that he will not be seeking reelection later this year.

Klein announced Wednesday that he will serve out his current term for District 78, and will not seek election for the newly confirmed District 92 of which he resides. As the legislature approved the once-every decade redrawn legislative maps last fall, Washington County will now be wholly represented by one House district which has no other current representatives in residence. Washington Mayor Jaron Rosien announced his candidacy Thursday to run for the Republican nomination in the June primary election. Rosien has been Washington’s mayor since 2018 and served on the city council since 2014. He has owned and operated JP’s 207 since 2012, and tells KCII he has had an interest in the legislature since he served as a Senate page when he was 18, “Fiscal responsibility is a priority, personally, professionally, and politically. I think there is a lot of important work to be done, but an objective and reasonable approach to spending is a focus that I will maintain during that work.”

Rosien ran unopposed for reelection as mayor last November, as he sought for a smooth transition in leadership while the council was in search of their next city administrator. His current term ends in 2025, and he says he will continue to serve in the role until possible election as representative. The filing period for state and federal offices in Iowa is February 28th through March 18th.
