With just a couple Southeast Conference games remaining, the Washington basketball teams hit the court tonight for a pivotal matchup against Burlington.
The Demon boys return home and need a win to control their destiny for at least a share of the SEC crown. The No. 2 Demons were upset by Ottumwa 58-50 in overtime on Monday to drop to 13-2 overall. They sit at 6-1 in the league, just behind Fort Madison’s 6-0 mark and ahead of Burlington’s 5-1 record. The Grayhounds are 10-6 overall and were last in action on Saturday beating Clear Creek-Amana 63-40. The orange and black won a hard fought battle in December by a 75-69 score. Amarion Davis went off for 30 points that night and the 6’2’’ senior guard averages 14.9 points a game.
The Washington girls are seeking their first win streak of the season and trying to build off of a 38-25 victory over Ottumwa. The Demons are 2-13 overall and 1-7 in the league, with that one SEC win coming against Burlington by a 49-30 score last month. In Monday’s win, the Demons connected on 23 of 31 free throws with Makenna Conrad making 11 of them. Burlington is 0-6 in conference and 0-15 overall with Alexis Standard scoring 10.8 of their 21.6 points a game. Washington has won five in a row in the series.
Both games are set to begin at 7:30 p.m. tonight with the Demon boys at home and the girls on the road. Listen to the boys’ contest on FM 106.1 KCII.
