Friday night the Mid-Prairie boys and girls basketball teams brought their hardhats, lunch pails and brooms to Bellevue and got to work completing a business trip sweep of the Comets. The Golden Hawk girls used a strong fourth quarter to overtake the Comets in a 52-45 win. Things were close early on with Bellevue holding a slim 14-10 lead after one quarter and a 29-23 advantage at half. Mid-Prairie made their move after intermission chopping the deficit to 41-39 going to the fourth before putting together a 13-4 run that lasted the entire final period to secure the win. A pair of Hawks got to double figures with senior Maddie Nonnenmann scoring a game high 19 and Amara Jones adding 13. The victory moves the Golden Hawks to 12-6 on the season.
The boys contest followed a similar formula with the Golden Hawks closing like Mariano Rivera to score a 54-45 win and remain perfect on the season. Bellevue led 15-14 after one and 28-23 at half. The Hawks kept the Comets close, trailing just 36-35 after three. The final eight minutes belonged to Mid-Prairie, outscoring Bellevue 19-9 to complete the come-from-behind-victory. A Golden Hawk trio got to double figures with Carter Harmsen leading the way at 16 points, Will Cavanagh scoring 14 and Alex Bean 11. The Hawks are 17-0 and will play Wilton on the road Tuesday night with a chance to clinch the south division River Valley Conference title.
