It’s the second clash of the season between two KCII area schools tonight when the Highland basketball teams welcome Hillcrest Academy for a Southeast Iowa Super Conference doubleheader.
The girls’ game will be a rematch from a 49-16 Highland victory in December. The Huskies will look to get above .500 with a 9-9 overall mark and 8-6 in the SEISC after a 64-35 win over Columbus on Friday. Abbi Stransky leads the team with 12.1 points a night, Sarah Burton adds 10.9, and Dani Laughlin is also in double figures with an average of 10.7 points. The Ravens look for their first conference victory after an 0-13 start to league play and 1-15 overall. They lost to Pekin 54-26 last week. Esther Hughes is the engine that goes for Hillcrest averaging 14.1 points and 6.1 boards a contest.
The first meeting on the boys’ side was a close 47-40 Hillcrest victory and the Ravens will try to stay in the top three of the north division with a 10-3 league mark and 12-4 overall. Bouncing back is on the minds’ of Hillcrest after a 68-30 loss to Danville on Saturday. Grant Bender paces the squad with 18.1 points and 6.2 boards a night. Highland has won two of the last three and come in with a 3-14 record including 3-11 in the north. Chase Schultz puts up 12.3 of their 37.1 points an outing.
