Residents and businesses in Kalona are lending a hand to help the Kalona Food Pantry restock following the holiday season.
Throughout the entire month of February, Kalona Chamber of Commerce members will be accepting donations for the pantry. Kalona Chamber of Commerce Director Tonia Poole says items needed include cereal, soup, boxed meals, canned meat, and fruit and vegetables aside from corn and green beans. She explains that non-food items can also be a blessing to those who visit the food pantry, “Sometimes there are things like your personal hygiene like deodorant, body wash, toothpaste, those kinds of things, that would be great to receive. The pantry will always take those things. Even things like socks or toilet paper and Kleenex, some of those household items that aren’t necessarily food are definitely essential items that people could always benefit from.”
Those who are eligible to receive items from the food pantry include Kalona residents and families that are a part of the Mid-Prairie School District. The Kalona Food Pantry is open from 9-10:30 a.m. on the second and fourth Saturday of every month at Gospel Light Fellowship on Highway 22.
