It was a pair of hard fought road victories for the Sigourney basketball teams on Friday when they traveled to Belle Plaine for a South Iowa Cedar League doubleheader.

The Sigourney boys had their second single digit win over the Plainsmen (10-7) this season with a 61-54 final on Friday. The matchup was notched up at 31-31 at the break, but a 30-23 close to the game helped the black and gold come away with the win. Bo Schmidt hit four of eight shots from deep to finish with a game-high 17 points and 14 rebounds. Levi Crawford added 13 points and Isaac Bruns recorded 10. The team improved to 11-7 and 8-6 in the SICL.

The girls’ game was full of more drama with the Savages needing an extra four minutes to claim victory by a 40-36 final. It was nip and tuck the entire game with the score tied 34-34 at the end of regulation and Sigourney buckled down for a 6-2 overtime period to emerge over the Plainsmen (10-7). They improve to 10-9 overall and 7-7 in the conference.

Both Sigourney teams host Tri-County this evening for Senior Night.
