A monstrous task awaited the Sigourney basketball teams on Thursday at home with a South Iowa Cedar League bout against North Mahaska and the Warhawks walked away with a pair of wins.
The Savage boys gave the visitors all they could handle by leading 21-18 after one, 33-32 at the break, and a 51-48 advantage heading into the final period. The Warhawks (14-4) closed with a 19-12 final frame to escape with a 67-63 victory. Sigourney had hot shooting that kept them around hitting 13 threes on the evening. Levi Crawford led the group with 18 points, Bo Schmidt had 15, and Karson Weber added 13. The black and gold are now 12-8 overall and 8-7 in the SICL to finish third in the east division. They close out the regular season Monday at Twin Cedars.
The Sigourney girls got down 34-20 at half against No. 8 North Mahaska (17-1) and could never threaten to get back into it in a 68-50 final score. The Savages are now 11-10 and 8-8 in the league, finishing seventh overall. They travel to Eddyville-Blakesburg on Tuesday before a first round class 1A regional bout against Keota on Thursday.
