The postseason starts today on the mat for KCII area wrestling teams including three competing in class 2A.

The Washington Demons travel to Solon for sectional 16. The Demons come into the meet with one ranked wrestler in their lineup. Aaron Boone represents the Washington Demons at No. 3 at 113lbs. The freshman 43-1 on the season, coming off of a runner-up finish at the Southern Iowa Classic last weekend. Other teams joining Washington in Solon include Keokuk, Mt. Pleasant, No. 3 Burlington Notre Dame, Solon, and West Liberty. There are a total of 13 ranked wrestlers in the field at Solon.

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks and Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union Wildcats trek to Benton today. Mid-Prairie enters the sectional with a pair of ranked wrestlers. Senior Cael Garvey is No. 3 at 195lbs. This week’s KCII JET Physical Therapy Athlete of the Week sports a 34-2 record on the season following his River Valley Conference title last week at Monticello. Fellow Golden Hawk senior Gannon Callahan is No. 12 at 285lbs. He placed third at the RVC championships last weekend, running his overall record to 19-2. The Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union Wildcats have Lane Scorpil ranked No. 3 at 120lbs. The Superconference champion has a perfect 38-0 record. Joining the Hawks and Wildcats at Benton for sectional 15 are Benton, Fairfield, Mount Vernon and Williamsburg. There are 11 ranked wrestlers in the field at Benton.

The top two individuals in each weight class qualify for next week’s district meet, one step shy of the state tournament in Des Moines. Sectional team champions and the next eight highest ranked teams qualify for regional duals on Tuesday.
