It was a historic week all around for the Highland girls’ basketball program with a lot of achievements checked off the list.

Head Coach Jody Fink picked up career win 300 in dramatic fashion on Friday with a 46-44 SEISC Shootout victory over Holy Trinity. Fink has been the head man for the red and white since 2003 and has 20 years of coaching overall. Throughout his 19 years at Highland he has averaged 14.5 wins a season and made the state tournament twice in 2005 and 2007. Fink reflected on the accomplishment. “Any coach will always say this means I have been around the game awhile. I’ve had a lot of good teams and good players and that is what I have this year. This is a great accomplishment and it means a lot to me, but I hope all of my players enjoy it as well because they played a huge factor and you can’t do it without them. Every group I have had has been great and this year’s team is special.”

Highland also had a pair of players reach the 500 point career mark in Dani Laughlin and Abbi Stransky. Laughlin reached the milestone in last Friday’s win over Columbus where the junior dropped 16 points. Stransky reached 500 points in Tuesday’s home win against Hillcrest Academy where she recorded a game-high 18 points. Both juniors have been starting since their freshman year and this winter Stransky averages 12.4 points a night and Laughlin is right behind with 10.2.

Highland now gears up for the postseason with the Huskies hosting Lisbon in round one on Thursday.
