The first step on the way to the state tournament was checked off the list for a trio of Washington grapplers on Saturday with Colley Billingsly, Aaron Boone, and Chase Greiner cracking the top two at sectionals.

The class 2A competition in Solon saw Billingsly reign supreme at 220 lbs by going 2-0 with a pin over West Liberty’s Joe Akers in 1:27 and a fall over Solon’s Tyler Hancox in 3:02 for the first place finish. Boone was able to advance after bouncing back from a 4-1 semifinal loss to down Solon’s Kyler Jessup by a 20-2 technical fall in the second place match. Greiner’s opening round fall against West Liberty’s Joe Barten in 3:24 at 160 lbs was all he needed to get through. The sophomore lost by pin in the title match, but did not need a wrestle back bout to move on. Individuals that saw their season come to a close, but had a podium finish included Jack Kleese third at 126 lbs, Jude Carter third at 132 lbs, Fredy Aguilar third at 145 lbs, Logan Frazer third at 182 lbs, and Brayden Hartman third at 285 lbs. 

Notre Dame won the team title with 243 points and Washington was fourth out of six with 159.5. 

The Demon trio will compete in Saturday’s districts at Williamsburg for the right to advance to state.
