The No. 2 in class 2A Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys basketball team is one win away from a perfect regular season after pounding Durant in Wellman Tuesday 74-46. Mid-Prairie was never challenged on the night, leading 18-11 after one quarter and rolling to a 16-5 run that spanned the entire second quarter to take a 34-16 lead into the half. The Golden Hawks outscored the Wildcats 40-30 after halftime to finish the win. Mid-Prairie shot 54% as a team and picked up 34 rebounds. Four Hawks got to double figures led by 20 points from Jack Pennington. Carter Harmsen had 14, Ethan Kos 13 and Alex Bean 10. Mid-Prairie is now 20-0 on the year while Durant falls to 5-16. The win leaves the Golden Hawks one victory away from tying the school record for best start to a season and longest winning streak set in 1991. Mid-Prairie can tie that record and close out a perfect regular season Friday when they entertain No. 7 Monticello in a top 10 battle for the overall River Valley Conference title.
