The final Associated Press boys basketball poll for this season was released Monday with four KCII area schools making an appearance.
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks remained at No. 2 in class 2A. They have the most first place votes in the poll with five. They are the only undefeated team left in class 2A. The Hawks entered the week with a perfect 19-0 record and beat Durant on Tuesday for their 20th straight win, 74-46. They can tie the school record for best start to a season, longest winning streak in school history, capture the overall River Valley Conference title and wrap up an undefeated regular season with a victory Friday over No. 7 Monticello. That game will be played at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman and carried live on AM and FM KCII.
The Washington Demons appeared at No. 3 in class 3A this week. Coming into the homestretch with a 16-2 record. Washington dropped their game on Monday at No. 6 in class 2A Williamsburg 83-73. The Demons are next in action Friday when they host Keokuk. They close the regular season next week with a home date against Solon.
The WACO Warriors and Winfield-Mt. Union Wolves were among the list of teams receiving votes in the class 1A poll. WACO is 17-4 on the season after Saturday’s Superconference Shootout win over Hillcrest Academy 60-22 and a 59-49 win at Burlington Notre Dame on Tuesday. WACO’s next game comes in the district tournament Monday when they face the winner of Keota and Tri-County. Winfield-Mt. Union is 19-2 for the year after wrapping up an undefeated 16-0 Superconference North division title Tuesday with a 54-28 win over Hillcrest Academy. The Wolves will next be on the floor Monday when they host Highland to open districts.
