It was the end of the regular season earlier this week for the Sigourney basketball teams with both teams experiencing mixed results.
The Savage boys picked up their fifth win in six tries on Monday with a 79-41 beatdown at Twin Cedars (6-14). They led 30-19 at the break and quickly put the game to bed with a 24-6 close in the second half. The team shot 11 of 24 from long range with Levi Crawford hitting three of them and finished with a game-high 22 points. Ethan Shifflett managed 13 points and six boards, Bo Schmidt had 11 points, and Karson Weber finished with 10. The black and gold improved to 13-8 and they will open district play Monday at Iowa Valley (17-4).
The Sigourney girls traveled to Eddyville on Tuesday and couldn’t keep up in a 66-36 loss to the Rockets (16-5). The South Central Conference champs held just a 26-19 advantage at the break, but went on a 40-17 run in the final two quarters to break it open. The Savages are 11-11 and their round one game is tonight hosting Keota (6-14).
