The Washington Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors helped celebrate the relocation of a non-profit thrift store Tuesday.

Pastor Darren Brown of Tribulation and Trust Ministry, Inc. was handed the large scissors to commemorate the new location of The Master’s Hand Thrift Store at 980 West 5th Street. Brown shares the new warehouse location is a large improvement upon their previous storefront at South 2nd Avenue, “When you think of that little store and when we first opened it up and you think of where we were at and what we thought was going to need to be done. That store, it was great and it did a lot for getting us started, but we were so overwhelmed by the donations that were coming in. There was no way we could process it and it wasn’t big enough, but it’s been a good journey and the community has been 100% behind us and that’s made it happen.”

Brown says the community helped them raise about $300,000 to purchase the new building, and The Master’s Hand’s proceeds support The Lighthouse Center, a homeless shelter located on South Iowa Avenue that serves those in need in Washington County and beyond. Brown says the store brought in close to $260,000 for the shelter last year. The shelter includes a food pantry which distributed about $100,000 in goods to the public last year. Tribulation and Trust is working to move the pantry to The Master’s Hand which will be handicap accessible. The store is open from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and volunteers are always welcome.
