It was a clean season sweep for the Sigourney girls’ basketball team against their rival to the east, as they downed Keota for the third time on Thursday in a 50-40 first round class 1A regional game.

The road Eagles gained the momentum early up 10-6 after one with their man-to-man defense causing the Savages some fits. Sigourney dialed up the press and it worked to perfection to open up a 14 point halftime advantage. Foul trouble for the home team allowed Keota to stick around, but making five of six free throws down the stretch allowed Sigourney to hold on for the 10-point victory. Savage Head Coach Zach Tremmel tells KCII Sports his team responded well in the second quarter. “They got on us early, but we gathered at the end of the first and made adjustments. We got a more athletic lineup in, pressed them, and forced turnovers. It was one of our best quarters of the year and that ended up being the difference.”

The Eagles end the winter 6-15 and they bid farewell to one senior in Taylor Kindred. The Savages improve to 12-11 and advance to the quarterfinal round tonight at English Valleys (19-3).
