The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls basketball team saw their season and playoff run come to an end Saturday at Iowa City West High School in a 44-32 loss to Davenport Assumption in the Class 3A Region 4 final. In a game heard on AM and FM KCII, the two teams began the contest with a focus on defense and half court offense. The slower tempo lent itself to a tighter game with the Lady Knights leading 10-7 after the first frame and 22-16 at half. The third quarter proved to be the difference with Assumption putting together an 11-2 run that lasted the entire period, while Mid-Prairie went through a seven minute drought, the only basket a Landry Pacha layup. The Knights would stretch their lead to as large as 15 in the third. In the final period, Mid-Prairie battled back to pull within eight in the final two minutes on a Maddie Nonnenmann three, but that was as close as they would get with Assumption slamming the door on the comeback by going 17 of 19 at the line.

Assumption outrebounded Mid-Prairie 25-19 and forced 13 turnovers. Nonnenmann led the Golden Hawks with 13 points and eight rebounds. She ends her Golden Hawk career in fourth place on the all-time scoring list with 1,066 points. She passed her Aunt Sarah Larsen in her final game on Saturday. The Golden Hawks end their season at 15-9 and say goodbye to seniors Maddie Nonnenmann and Cana Rediger.
