The final KCII area basketball team to start their playoff journey is the Washington boys and tonight the wait is over. The No. 3 ranked and top seeded Demons open the class 3A postseason with a first round substate matchup with eight-seeded South Tama.
The Trojans finished the regular season 2-20 and seventh in the WaMac West Division. They are coming off of a 70-51 win over Perry last week and have been playing better ball since the return of top scorer Osceola Tyon. The senior has played in 12 games and averages 17.3 of the team’s 38.7 points a night. They give up 65 points a game, right at Washington’s offensive season average. The 18-3 and Southeast Conference champion Demons are second in class 3A in free throws made and shoot at a 69% clip. They rank fifth in rebounding with 34.7 a night. Ethan Patterson registers 17 points a contest and Kasen Bailey is at 15.2.
The winner will play either Solon or Center Point-Urbana on Thursday in a substate semifinal. The playoff action begins at 6:30 p.m. tonight in Washington. Listen to the entire Demon postseason journey on FM 106.1 KCII.
